Feint is the modern strategy game of hidden armies, ranked combat, and clan rivalries. Learn the ranks in one match. Spend a lifetime outsmarting them.
- Stones: impassable terrain in the central 2 by 2 zone.
- Revealed enemy piece: an opponent piece whose identity is now known.
- Hidden enemy piece: shown as a question mark, identity still unknown.
- Your pieces: your active units.
- Core: your win-condition marker, shown as a diamond. Losing it ends the match.
- Last move: the highlighted squares show the most recent move from one square to another.

Feint is hidden-information chess. You see your army; you guess theirs. Every move is a question, every attack an answer.
- Step 01
Deploy in secret
Arrange your 40 pieces across your four home rows. Your opponent only sees their backs — ranks are hidden.
Auto-deploy presets (Defensive, Offensive, Random) get you in the game in seconds.
- Step 02
Move one piece per turn
Pieces move one square — up, down, left or right. No diagonals, no jumping, no walking through lakes.
Exception: a Recon slides any distance in a straight line, like a chess rook.
- Step 03
Strike to reveal
Move onto an enemy square to attack. Both pieces flip face-up — the higher rank survives, the loser is removed.
Equal ranks? Both pieces are destroyed. The Core and Traps never move.
- Step 04
Capture the Core
Find and take the enemy Core to win the match. Lose all moveable pieces and you forfeit.
Average match: 8–15 minutes. Every reveal tightens the noose.
When pieces collide
Most fights are decided by rank. These four matchups cover every exception.
Overseer (10) crushes Vanguard (9) — straightforward combat.
Lowest rank assassinates the highest — but only when the Wraith attacks.
Sappers are the only piece that can take a Trap without exploding.
Equal ranks both die. Sometimes a fair trade is the best move.

Move any piece onto the enemy Core.
Lock them down
Opponent has no legal moves left.

Standard chess clocks apply across formats.
